Elbow symptoms we treat

Tennis elbow

Pain on the outside of the elbow when gripping, lifting a kettle, shaking hands, using a mouse or carrying shopping.

Golfer's elbow

Pain on the inside of the elbow with gripping, wrist bending and lifting, often with tenderness spreading into the forearm.

Forearm & grip weakness

Reduced grip strength, aching after DIY, racket sport or keyboard work, and pain that returns each time you resume activity.

Understanding your condition

Why it persists

These are tendon loading problems, not inflammation you can simply rest away. The tendon becomes intolerant of the demand placed on it, so complete rest reduces pain briefly and then the problem returns when you go back to normal use.

Our treatment approach

We reduce the aggravating load, use manual therapy and neck or shoulder screening where relevant, then rebuild grip and forearm capacity with a measured strength programme. For pain lasting several months, focused shockwave therapy is often added to stimulate the tendon's response.

How we treat elbow tendon pain

  1. 01

    Assess

We confirm which tendon is involved and rule out neck or nerve contributions to your pain.

  2. 02

    Treat

Hands-on treatment, load management and, for persistent cases, focused shockwave therapy.

  3. 03

    Restore

Progressive grip and forearm strengthening so work, DIY and sport stop flaring the elbow.

Initial assessment £75 (45 min) · Assessment with diagnostic ultrasound scan £150 (60 min) · Follow-up treatment £60 (30 min).See full physiotherapy prices and our treatments in Oxford.

Common questions

What is the difference between tennis and golfer's elbow?
Tennis elbow affects the tendons on the outside of the elbow and hurts with gripping and lifting palm-down. Golfer's elbow affects the inside of the elbow and hurts with gripping, wrist flexion and carrying. Both are tendon overload problems and both respond to graded loading.
How long does tennis elbow take to settle?
Most people improve over six to twelve weeks with the right loading programme. Long-standing cases can take longer, and shockwave therapy is often useful where pain has persisted for months.
Do braces and straps help?
A clasp or strap can reduce pain during specific tasks, but it does not fix the tendon. We use it as short-term support alongside a strengthening plan.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly for assessment and treatment.
