Running & cycling injuries · Botley, Oxford

Running & cycling injury physiotherapy in Oxford.

Most endurance injuries come from training load outgrowing tissue capacity, not from a single bad step. At our Botley clinic, a few minutes' drive from central Oxford, we diagnose the injury, treat it and rebuild your training so you are not back in the same place next season.

Running & cycling injuries we treat

Knee & ITB pain

Runner's knee, pain on the outside of the knee on longer runs or descents, and knee pain linked to saddle height or cleat position.

Shin, calf & Achilles

Shin pain when increasing mileage, recurring calf strains and Achilles pain that is worse the morning after a run.

Hip, glute & low back pain

Deep buttock or hip pain on longer efforts, and low back or neck pain that builds on the bike.

Understanding your condition

Training load, not just tissue

We map your recent mileage, intensity, surface and gradient alongside the examination. Most overuse injuries have a load story behind them, and finding it is what stops the injury recurring when you return to full training.

Strength and technique

Calf, glute and quadriceps capacity, running cadence and bike position all influence load. We test strength objectively, use in-clinic diagnostic ultrasound for tendon problems, and add focused shockwave therapy where tendon pain has persisted.

Common questions

Do I have to stop running completely?
Rarely. Most running injuries settle faster with modified mileage, pace and surface than with total rest, and we set the level that keeps you moving without flaring symptoms.
Can you look at my bike fit?
We assess saddle height, reach and cleat position in relation to your symptoms and flexibility, and advise on changes or refer you on for a full fitting when needed.
Why does the same injury keep coming back?
Usually because the tissue's capacity was never rebuilt to match training load. We test strength and load tolerance and progress them before you return to full volume.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly for assessment and treatment.
