Knee problems we treat

Knee osteoarthritis

Morning stiffness, aching after walking, pain on stairs and swelling after activity in knees showing wear-related change.

Patellofemoral & runner's knee

Pain at the front of the knee with squatting, stairs, driving or running, often with a sense of the kneecap grinding or giving way.

Meniscal & ligament injuries

Twisting injuries, locking, catching, swelling and instability, with MRI referral arranged direct from the clinic where needed.

Understanding your condition

Osteoarthritis is not the end of the road

Wear-related change on a scan does not dictate your pain level. Quadriceps and hip strength, walking capacity and load management change symptoms substantially, and most people improve without surgery. Where pain is limiting rehabilitation, an ultrasound-guided injection can be discussed.

Getting the diagnosis right

Front-of-knee pain, tendon problems, meniscal irritation and referred pain from the hip or back all feel similar to patients but need different treatment. We test each systematically and use in-clinic diagnostic ultrasound or direct MRI referral when the answer changes your plan.

Common questions

Can physiotherapy help knee osteoarthritis?
Yes. Strengthening, load management and hands-on treatment are first-line care for knee osteoarthritis and often reduce pain and improve walking distance without surgery.
Do I need a scan for my knee?
Not always. We examine the knee first; diagnostic ultrasound is available in clinic for soft tissue and bursal problems, and MRI referral can be arranged direct from the clinic when a meniscal or ligament injury is suspected.
Will exercise wear my knee out?
No. Appropriate loading strengthens the muscles supporting the joint and is protective. We set the level so it challenges you without flaring your symptoms.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly for assessment and treatment.
